Clothes Dryer Not Drying?
Start With A Dryer Vent Inspection
It's a common complaint: "The dryer isn't drying anymore!" Maybe you've said the same thing recently. If so, it might surprise you to learn that about 95% of the time the dryer isn't the problem, it's the dryer vent line.
If your dryer takes more than one cycle to dry a load of clothes, there's a good chance you have a lint clog in your dryer vent line. Lint clogs restrict, or in many cases block, the flow of your dryer’s exhaust. When that happens, the dryer doesn’t operate efficiently, your clothes don’t get dry in a reasonable amount of time, and you run the risk of the lint igniting and starting a fire that can spread quickly to your dryer—and your laundry room.
How Serious A Risk Is There of a Lint Clog Starting a Fire?
In a word: Very. Every year, lint-clogged dryer vent lines and damaged or improperly installed venting are responsible for over 15,000 fires at homes, apartment buildings and businesses across the US. Homes have been completely destroyed and people have died. Yes, it’s that serious.
What Will A Dryer Vent Wizard Inspection Accomplish?
When you have a Dryer Vent Wizard come out to inspect your dryer vents, you can count on a thorough inspection and diagnosis of the problem you’re having. All our Wizards have achieved Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician credentials, so they can easily identify any fire, safety or health risks due to obstructions in the vent line, improper installation, or materials that aren’t up to current building codes.
An inspection by Dryer Vent Wizard looks at all components of your dryer vent line:
- The vent line itself
- Lint trap on your dryer
- How the vent pipes are connected
- The termination point (where your vent exhausts outdoors)
- Washer hoses (the hoses that carry water to your washing machine)
After inspecting your vent line, our technician will let you know his findings and write up a quote for correcting any problems he found. In most cases, our technicians are equipped to proceed immediately with the work. If that’s not possible, you’ll be scheduled for the soonest possible appointment time available.
Should an inspection find your vent line needs cleaning, or some other work, and it can’t be done on the day of the appointment, it’s best to hold off on using your dryer until the work can be completed. We realize this may not always be possible. At the very least, though, do not under any circumstances leave the house or go to sleep with your dryer running. If a fire were to start, at least you can call 911 and evacuate family members and pets if you’re home.
How Much Does a Dryer Vent Inspection Cost?
We charge a flat fee of $39 for a Dryer Vent Wizard technician to come to your home and perform a thorough inspection. The inspection itself typically takes about 1 hr. At the completion of the inspection, you'll be provided a detailed quote for any work that needs to be done to ensure the safety and functionality of your dryer vent line.
