Sheboygan Dryer Vent Cleaning & Repair
The Biggest Fire Hazard In Your Home Is In Your Laundry Room
Doing the laundry is one of those things we don’t pay much attention to. Clothes in the washer. Clothes in the dryer. Yay, it’s done.
Unfortunately, it never even occurs to most Americans that their dryer venting requires some routine maintenance, or that the dryer venting may have been improperly installed. And every year, over 15,000 households experience the unthinkable: A devastating fire started by a buildup of lint in a dryer vent.
Dryer Vent Cleaning Service Makes Laundry Lint Disappear
The lint that builds up inside your dryer vent is like tinder. (In fact, many outdoorsmen save the lint from their dryer’s lint trap to use as tinder!) When lint builds up inside a dryer vent, it can become overheated to the point of combustion. The fire spreads quickly. In less than 15 minutes, your entire laundry room can be engulfed in fire.
With regular cleaning, though, the chances of a dryer fire are virtually nil. How often? We recommend once a year. Our dryer vent cleaning pros will remove all lint caught inside your dryer vent and let you know if there are any changes to your venting system that can reduce the risk of a fire. For instance, if the routing of your venting is too long, or makes too many sharp turns.
Maintaining dryer vents isn’t something most people ever think about, and it’s not exactly glamorous or exciting work, but it can literally save lives. And for our Sheboygan dryer vent Wizards, that in itself makes the work worth doing.
Sheboygan Dryer Vent Cleaning Services:
New Dryer Vents
How old is your dryer vent? Not sure? If it’s the flexible plastic tubing, or the foil wrapped variety, you should be aware that a few years ago dryer manufacturers began warning against using this type of venting. Why? Because it’s a fire hazard. If the vent line clogs with lint (as it’s prone to do) and the lint becomes heated to the point of combustion, it will literally go up in flames within a minute. These flexible vent lines cannot be cleaned due to the risk of perforation, so we will install the correct kind—which is either a rigid or flexible aluminum vent line. Although this venting is not immune to clogging, it won’t catch fire.
Dryer Vent Repairs
Have you looked behind your dryer lately? We can’t tell you how many times we go someone’s house to clean their dryer vent, and when we pull the dryer away from the wall we find a crushed dryer vent line. Either the dryer was pushed too far against the wall and the flexible transition hose was crushed, or somehow during installation it was inadvertently stepped on. The only solution in these cases is to replace the damaged dryer vent with flexible aluminum venting. A constricted vent line is an invitation for lint to build up, overheat and ignite.
Dryer Vent Cleaning
If you had a clog in your shower drain, you wouldn’t just live with it. You’d get it cleaned out so you weren’t standing in a puddle of cold water every time you showered. Having your dryer vents cleared out is even more important. Unfortunately, a clogged dryer vent line isn’t as obvious as a clogged drain. The best way to ensure your dryer vent isn’t clogged to the point of being a fire hazard is to have it cleaned once a year. It isn't expensive, and our Dryer Vent Wizards get the job done quickly.
Rerouting Dryer Vents
he biggest problem we see is dryer vent lines that are just too long, or with too many bends. When dryer vents take a long or circuitous route to the outside of your house, there’s a tendency for the exhaust to stall in the vent. If the line is clogged with lint, all that hot exhaust can cause it to ignite. We routinely reroute dryer vent lines in a more direct manner, which instantly makes the dryer run more efficiently while also minimizing the risk of a fire inside the vent line.
If your dryer vents are exhausting warm air into your home or into your garage or attic, you’re allowing condensation to form inside your home—which can lead to the growth of mold. You’re also allowing lint particulate to enter your living area, potentially triggering respiratory problems as severe as asthma. There’s a reason dryer vents are supposed to vent to the outdoors: Because it’s unhealthy for houses and to humans to vent a dryer indoors!
